Ayurvedic Approach to Seasonal Wellness: Monsoon & Summer Care

Seasons change, and so should your health habits. According to Ayurveda, each season affects the balance of doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—in our bodies. If we don’t adjust our lifestyle and diet accordingly, this imbalance can lead to seasonal illnesses, fatigue, or chronic issues.

Let’s explore how Ayurveda helps you adapt to Monsoon and Summer, two critical seasons in India, especially in states like Gujarat and Maharashtra where humidity, heat, and digestion-related issues are common.

🌧️ Monsoon (Varsha Ritu): Balancing Vata and Kapha

During the rainy season, Vata dosha becomes aggravated, while Kapha increases due to dampness and moisture. This can lead to indigestion, bloating, allergies, colds, and joint stiffness.

✅ Ayurvedic Tips for Monsoon:

  • Favor warm, light, and freshly cooked food
Avoid raw, fermented, and heavy items. Opt for khichdi, moong dal, and steamed veggies with digestive spices like ginger and hing.

  • Sip warm herbal teas
Tulsi, dry ginger, and cinnamon teas help keep the respiratory system clear and boost immunity.

  • Use natural immunity boosters
Our Swarnaprashan® drops and Mulethi powder are perfect during monsoon to ward off coughs and sore throats.

  • Avoid excessive dampness
Keep your feet dry and avoid getting drenched to prevent Kapha aggravation.

  • Include bitter and astringent tastes
These help reduce moisture accumulation in the body. Neem, methi (fenugreek), and turmeric are excellent.

☀️ Summer (Grishma Ritu): Cooling Pitta Naturally

Summer increases Pitta dosha, which governs heat and metabolism. Excess Pitta leads to acidity, heat rash, anger, hair fall, and loose motions.

✅ Ayurvedic Tips for Summer:

  • Stay cool with hydrating foods
Coconut water, cucumber, soaked sabja seeds, and seasonal fruits like watermelon are great. Avoid oily and spicy food.

  • Use cooling herbs
Herbs like shatavari, amla, rose, and gulkand balance internal heat. These can be included in drinks or taken as supplements.

  • Apply soothing oils before bath
A gentle abhyanga (massage) with coconut or sandalwood oil calms Pitta and keeps the skin cool.

  • Eat during cooler parts of the day
Avoid heavy meals at noon. Opt for light lunches and nourishing dinners before 8 PM.

  • Wear light, breathable fabrics
Cotton and linen allow the body to stay ventilated.
